Sharing the internet connection

So we have a standard PC with USB and a network card. To the USB we have the dsl modem connected to. The connection itself must be shared on the OS side. I used Windows XP professional as the host PC`s OS.  Once the connection is shared you can set up  the fonera working with it.

To enter the configuration window in the fonera software first connect it to your PC using the standard lan cable that was delivered with the fonera. Then set up the IP of  your local network card to:

IP: 169.254.255.2
Subnetmask:  255.255.0.0

Setting up static IP connection

Fonera itself is using 169.254.255.1 what you can`t take. If the configuration was accepted, open a browser (e.g. Firefox) and type 169.254.255.1 in the adress field. You should be connected to the administration webside. To set the static IP for the connection klick on "ADVANCED" and  "Internet Connection". You will be prompt to log in. The standard login is: root / admin . In the Internet Connnection window you have to set up the connection mode to "static IP"  and set the IP range your HOST PC will have.

Your Host PC will have e.g 192.168.1.1 so the IP for fonera should be different. for example 192.168.1.2 The Network Mask is 255.255.255.0 for this type of IP, the Gateway and DNS must be the one of the hoss PC --> 192.168.1.1

Click on the "Submit" button to accept the changes and switch on and of the fonera to make the changes durable.

Setting the static IP on local network card

The last part is to change the IP of your local network connection. Go to the connection settig of your network and change the IP to 192.168.1.1. Subnet Mask should be 255.255.255.0 From that on fonera should be able to connect to the internet and be used as a router for your wireless devices. Os course the host PC must have an active internet connection and be on. And of course your firewall has to accept connection from the 192.168.1.x IP range.
